Well here we are at the 4th of July and it's time for a radical departure in establishments from which to partake of fine food.

This month's selection is none other than "The Shack".  You will find the Shack by driving North on I 35 all the way to NE 63rd street.  Go West to the first place you can turn left after the second traffic light.  Make your turn and you will find The Shack.  They are located at 303 NW 62nd Street for all of you GPS fans. The Shack is an excellent Seaford & Oyster Bar.  A good casual place to have lunch or dinner.  Great Oysters on the half shell and plenty of fine seafood await you.  A good seasonal drink and you are all set for a fine time.

Enjoy!

 March 2010- RAILHEAD DINER

Spring is in the air, or occasionally in the air.  For an experience on the local scene be sure and take a quick trip south to Purcell.  Your destination will be The Rail Head Diner, located immediately on your right, just on the south side of the Canadian River bridge between Lexington and Purcell at hwy 77 and the first traffic light. It is on the Purcell side. If you have trouble finding it (you won't), just roll down the car window, put your nose in the air and take a big whiff....then go where your nose tells you. You'll love the way owner "Pam's" son Shane takes a ball of ground beef and "tosses" it over on the grill.....  The Railhead has excellent onion burgers and if you hurry I am told the Red Top Stew is truly memorable. Special thanks to Marty Creagan for this great idea.  See you at the railhead.

 CLOSED SUNDAY AND MONDAY

On 4/7/10, I followed my nose to Purcell and the Railhead Diner.......YUM what a great place to eat! Nice job PANELMAN! I had their blue plate special which consisted of 2 pieces of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and green beans, plus a yeast roll...all for $5.79.....and I noted that fellow cRc member Gary W. was sitting in a booth near me enjoying the last remains of one of their homemade "fried cherry pies".....Gary said not to get there too early as the fried pies come out a little after 11am....they are closed on Monday and Sunday.

 February 2010- MAMA E

Hello everyone and Happy Valentines day to you all.  We are going to have a change of pace this month and turn our attention to soul food.  There is no better place in Okla. City  for soul food than Mama E's.

Mama E's, 3838 Springlake Drive.

That's just off the corner of 36th and North Kelly on Springlake Drive.

It's the building that is black and yellow.

Her hours are 7AM until 3PM.  She get's a lot of traffic around the noon hour, so go around 1:30PM.

You will get a  choice of 2 meats and 2 vegitables.  When I was there I had some great catfish and some chicken and dressing along with greens and beans.  I passed on what I was told was the finest neckbone around.

Don't ask for iced tea because their drink of choice is koolaid.  Yes I said Koolaid.

Make the trip you will not be disappointed.  Lunch cost runs around $12.00.

Nic"s  1201 North Pennsylvania Street, Okla. City.
Nic's is right on up there when it comes to onion burgers and probably anything else.  Nick drops a ball of hamburger meat about the size of a tennis ball on the grill and mashes it out right before your eyes. Throw in some fry's and boy is it good.

Important thing about NIc's is he is open only from 8AM until 2PM.

It's a small place with about 10 stools and a couple of tables that are pretty small.  I have never arrived when there has not been a line.  Not to worry when you make it in the door they will take your order and by the time you can sit down you order will be ready.  Plan to arrive about 1:15 to avoid the rush.

An order of fries and a burger will fill you up and then some.  Nick was featured last year on the TV show "Diners, Drive-In's and Dives so you know it's got to be good.  Enjoy!

 PS limited parking.

Dan's Old Time Dinner.  Located at about 82nd street and South Western.  Dan's is a fairly large place but it will do you no good you won't escape the aroma.

Get the onion burger and a half order of fries.

It is very good and loaded with onions.

APRIL - 2010
Hello everybody!  Now that you all are in receipt of your hefty tax return checks.  Let's talk about how you can help boost the economy.  One thing might be to buy yet another old car.  Another way would be to enjoy a fine meal at Soda Pops Cafe.  Don't confuse this with the famous Pops on Route 66.  Soda Pops is located at 1020 S. W. 119th Street in Oklahoma City.  Just off the corner of Western and 119th Street South.  They do have excellent hamburgers and good old fashioned cooking.  There is plenty of rock and roll music on the jukebox and a large soda pop bottle collection.  Go try it out and enjoy that tax refund.  Right!
