BOBBY CHARLES GOWENS was born in Purcell. He enjoyed fishing from his boat slip at Lake Thunderbird. He also enjoyed bike riding, gardening, and cooking. He was well known for his guacamole and salsa, as well as his world famous margaritas. His wife Elsie said Bob made THE BEST! He also enjoyed stir-fry, and made great BBQ ribs. Bob enjoyed grilling burgers and steaks and hosting fish fries. He was an excellent host and enjoyed entertaining family and friends in his home. He was often referred to by his friends as the "social chair" and "travel planner".

A big fan of OU football and the OKC Thunder. He supported the OU wrestling team and wrestled on the Norman High 112 pound and under team and was ready for the state championships when he ate a bag of Kraft Caramels and still couldn't make his weight.

Bob and Elsie enjoyed travel and especially going on cruises. They enjoyed just cruising around Lake Thunderbird in his classic red 1956 Chevrolet. Bob was a long time member of the Canadian River Cruisers, classic car club and we would often see him on a Saturday morning for coffee, and almost always at the club's annual Christmas party.

His other many enjoyments included photography, dancing, playing games, and people - he never met a stranger. He would always turn on his 1000 watt smile and sit for a visit. Bob was born in Purcell but raised in Norman and graduated from NHS in the class of 1960. In 1972 he founded Bob's Plumbing, and often went door to door handing out bob's plumbing flyers. Bob and Elsie were married for 58 years. He is survived by his wife, his son Rob Gowens (a.k.a. Hob Nob Rob),  his daughter Tammy.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 25th at 1:00 PM at Cross Pointe Church (East Hwy 9 and 24th (near the postal center). Members of the cRc will assemble with their classic cars at 12:30 at the church as a tribute to Bob and his family.
